Special thanks to printmaker/filmmaker/actor/vocalist – "The Cone-cutter" @frankkwiatkowski of The Kwiatkowski Press for an informative and entertaining three hour chat from Denver via Skype for I, #MikeOToole's #ExperimentallyILL #Radio #podcast artist profile series on 1/11/2016! Coming soon to http://ExperimentallyILL.com – on this episode 93 we talk Frank's iconic printmaking method of cutting designs into stolen orange road cones, printing the image onto discarded material like blue print paper and posting this art out on the street! As a type 1 diabetic, syringe symbols figure prominently into his work along with other sometimes satirical biographical and socio-political themes. We also talk his collaborations with #ReelGroovyFilms filmmaker John Hartman in shooting and co-producing his semi-autobiographical film "Cone-Cutter" and his acting in other films like Kung-Fu Hippie, Lost Soul and The Shackling (formerly Victor Has Been Shot) – where I met Frank and his photographer/filmmaker partner Tomas in Cambridge, MA while they were on a road trip from Denver to New York to compile interviews for a documentary they are creating on guerrilla artists – with additional material on diabetes. Frank shared his personal history with the ups and downs of the illness, coping with depression through art and fitness, his thoughts at large on the pharmaceutical system, class warfare, how "he has become the posterboy for syringes" and thus, beyond his control, the heroin-using community has embraced his art. On that note, he shares his painful experiences with friends and loved-ones affected by heroin – and emphasises the importance of clean needles. We also talk of his experience owning his own pedicab to make money to support his art habit – pasting his work outside the cab and selling prints to those who ride with him, clothing collaborations with a sexy seamstress muse, the evolution of "The Cone-Cutter" as an alter-ego super-hero character, and the real-life villains that have battled Frank The Prank on the streets of Denver, like the infamous pedicab driver known only as "Piss-Sandwich!" 12.8.2015 Last Man Talking… Although some things were a struggle and I am so ready to return to my TV roots, having an ensemble cast and crew and doing a weekly-turned-daily morning radio show was a highlight of my checkered media career. Much personal work on my demons and doubts still exist and some professional creative goals are yet to be attained, but I like talking and learning and thinking and documenting life, so I continue this journey… Getting ready to bang out episode 88 of my #ExperimentallyILL #Radio #podcast, in studio with my consistent co-host, #redbull! Experimenting with taking #Skype calls – username ExperimentallyILL – I can run a cell phone and an iPad with a Skype call through my #audioboard. Thank you to nice Jewish boy Sage Jankowitz who has been able to join me in conversation consistently as of late – though all folks are always welcome to join me/us. I have some technology and some brains and I talk to artists, celebs, eccentrics and YOU! Mikeovideo@gmail.com is my email and check out http://ExperimentallyILL.con for updates soon!
